Fall at the Garden
Want to know what’s happening at the Grow & Learn Community Garden right now? SO much! Fall is one of the busiest (and best) times of the year for us.
Right now our gardeners are in full fall clean-up mode. We’re harvesting the last of the juicy tomatoes and colorful peppers, pulling out plants that have stopped producing, and making space for fresh fall plantings.
And yes — there’s still time to get things in the ground! Starter plants like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage (my personal favorite!) are going in now. We’re also sprinkling seeds for crisp fall salads — think spinach, arugula, and lettuces — and tucking in roots like radishes and beets that will be perfect for holiday meals. Yum!
A Little Garden Gossip
Some gardeners are trying their hand at cool-weather veggies, while others are sowing a cover crop to let their beds rest and recharge over winter. This year our cover crop of choice is crimson clover. By spring, it’ll be a lush, red-blooming blanket feeding the soil and feeding the pollinators — basically a win-win.
Come See for Yourself
The garden is changing fast — summer crops fading, fall greens popping up, and crimson clover starting to sprout. It’s a gorgeous time to visit, dig in, and see how a community garden transitions from one season to the next. If you’ve been curious about joining us, now’s the perfect time to stop by.
