What a busy summer it’s been at the Grow & Learn Community Garden! Through the heat, humidity, and long sunny days, our gardeners have been hard at work planting, tending, harvesting, and caring for their garden beds. We’ve loved seeing the dedication, growth, and abundance that filled the garden throughout the summer months. Thank you to everyone who put in the time and effort to keep our garden growing!
Now, as the temperatures begin to cool and the leaves start to change, we’re welcoming a new season in the garden. Fall brings its own rhythm, and our gardeners are preparing their beds in different ways.
Some are keeping their beds productive with cool-season crops like leafy greens, root vegetables, and other fall favorites. Others are beginning to tuck their beds in for the winter, planting cover crops like crimson clover and oats to protect and nourish the soil during the colder months. These cover crops help reduce erosion, add organic matter, and prepare the soil for another growing season come spring.
Whether you’re harvesting fresh produce or giving your garden bed a well-deserved winter rest, fall is an important time to care for our soil and set ourselves up for success next year.
🍂 Help Us Grow Our Compost — We Need Your Leaves!
As you begin cleaning up your own yard this fall, we have a favor to ask: Please consider donating your bagged leaves to the Grow & Learn Community Garden!
Fallen leaves are one of nature’s best ingredients for compost. They provide valuable carbon that helps balance our compost pile, break down garden waste, and create nutrient-rich compost that we can return to our garden beds. Instead of sending those leaves to the curb, help us turn them into something that gives back to our community garden!
Here’s how to donate:
Bag your leaves as you clean up your yard.
Bring them to the Grow & Learn Community Garden at 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike, behind First Presbyterian Church.
Leave the bags on the concrete pad inside the garden, next to our herb spiral.
Every bag makes a difference, and we’re grateful for the support of our neighbors and community members. Your leaves will help us build healthier soil and keep our garden thriving for seasons to come!
Thank you for growing with us, supporting our community, and helping make the Grow & Learn Community Garden a special place to learn, connect, and grow together.
Happy fall, and happy gardening! 🍁
