AmeriCorps Summer Position, Agricultural Outreach Internship –  Flexible Schedule. Hybrid. $3000 Stipend for 300 hours over 10 weeks + $1565 Educational Award (good for 7 years). May 18 - July 31. Potential short term housing available.

Are you passionate about the arts, locally grown food, farmers markets, local festivals, gardening, sustainability, educational outreach, or community organizing? Grow Oak Ridge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes health in Anderson County, Tennessee, by growing connections between local farmers, food producers, and the public. We are a small non-profit organization based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. 

Grow Oak Ridge is looking for an organized, creative, social media savvy, dependable, friendly, and outgoing student intern to join our team for the summer of 2026. During the summer, we produce the Lavender Festival, the Grow Your Own Program, Market-To-Go, and several other projects and classes in the Grow & Learn Community Garden. This intern should be prepared to work in a friendly, approachable work environment to complete a broad range of tasks in various aspects of agricultural outreach. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Social Media Promotion for Lavender Festival and other Grow Oak Ridge projects

  • Assist in the design, development, and distribution of marketing materials 

  • Assist and design 1-2 activities for Nourish Kids Club at Lavender Festival 

  • Design, implement, and promote 2-3 summer gardening workshops or activities for the Grow & Learn Community Garden

  • Assist and shadow our Program Coordinator with Grow Your Own Program Workshops

  • Assist in Data Management for the Grow Your Own Program

  • Assist with gardening in the Grow & Learn Community Garden

  • Develop business connections to promote the Cut Flower Garden at the Grow & Learn Community garden

  • Assist with the compost program at the Grow & Learn Community Garden

Learning Outcomes: 

Throughout the duration of the internship, the intern will learn:

  • Community engagement skills

  • Event planning and execution

  • Festival development and coordination while assisting with Lavender Festival which attracts over 20,000 people yearly

  • Networking with local businesses and organizations

  • How to teach and lead workshops and classes as they relate to gardening and locally grown food 

  • Develop events and activities as they relate to gardening and locally grown food

  • Project planning and implementation

  • Marketing, outreach, publicizing and promoting events and services

  • Learn how to make high quality compost

Requirements:

  • Minimum High School Graduate or GED (must be a current undergraduate student at Berea College)

  • Preferred majors: Marketing, Education, Communications, Agriculture, Arts, English, Sustainability or related fields

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of web and social media

  • Preferred experience with Google Mail, Drive, Slides, Sheets, and Docs 

  • Must be able to lift 30+ pounds

  • Must supply your own computer and transportation
